Youth Parliament

Welcome to our Youth Parliament page!

At Ashbrook school, we believe that the foundation of a bright future begins with empowering our young learners today. One of the key initiatives that support this belief is our active participation in the Youth Parliament meetings organised by our academy trust, IFtL. We're proud to have two Year 2 children who represent our school at these half-termly gatherings, led by our CEO, Sarah Bennett.

Why Youth Parliament Matters

Youth Parliament provides a unique platform for our children to learn and practice vital life skills in a supportive and engaging environment. Here’s why it's important for our school:

1. Fostering Responsibility

Responsibility is one of our core school values. By participating in the Youth Parliament, our young representatives learn to take responsibility for their actions and decisions. They understand the importance of representing their peers and making thoughtful contributions to discussions. This experience helps them develop a sense of accountability that will benefit them throughout their lives.

2. Encouraging Collaboration

'Together' is a fundamental value of our Trust. The Youth Parliament meetings are an excellent opportunity for our children to work together with peers from other schools. They learn the value of teamwork, communication, and collaboration. By working together, they can achieve more and make a positive impact on their school community and beyond.

3. Promoting Creativity and Innovation

Our CEO, Sarah Bennett leads the Youth Parliament meetings with a focus on creativity and innovation. Children are encouraged to think outside the box and come up with new ideas to solve problems and improve their school experience. This creative approach fosters critical thinking and helps children develop a growth mindset.

4. Building Confidence and Leadership Skills

Participating in Youth Parliament helps our children build confidence in their abilities. They learn to speak in front of others, present their ideas, and engage in meaningful discussions. These experiences are invaluable in developing leadership skills that will serve them well in the future.

5. Strengthening Community and Belonging

Being part of the Youth Parliament helps our children feel a sense of belonging to a larger community. They understand that they are part of a network of schools working together to achieve common goals. This sense of community strengthens their connection to their school and fosters a positive school culture.
