Dropping and collecting from school

For the safety of all children at Ashbrook we carefully manage drop off and collection from school.

Drop off:

  • Foundation children are dropped at two external doors to our Foundation Stage area and are greeted by a member of staff.
  • Key Stage 1 children are expected to be lining up at 08:40 when a member of staff, usually the class teacher, will collect from the main playground and lead into school for registration.

Collection:

  • Foundation children will leave via the same door (Leopards by the ramp) and Elephants via the Early Years outdoor area. Staff will wait until they have seen the parent or agreed adult.
  • Key Stage 1 children will be led onto the playground (to their usual drop off area) and will be dismissed once the staff member has seen the parent or agreed adult.

* Please note that to allow for the safe and secure handover of children that any parents with messages to share or questions wait until after children have been dismissed.

Parents will be expected to collect, unless it is another agreed adult. If a parent cannot collect then we ask for school to be notified in advance giving the name or relationship of the person who will be collecting. A 'code word' can be shared for the adult to then say, which then allows the staff member to verify collection.

In exceptional circumstances a parent may request, in writing, that a sibling can collect. This will be at the discretion of the Headteacher.

Factors that parents and carers should take into account include:

  • the maturity of all the children involved
  • the length and nature of the journey home
  • the behaviour of all the children involved
  • the relationship between the children collecting or being collected.

We recommend that siblings 16 years and under do not collect children from Ashbrook School.
